Eric Douglas Coates Sr.

I have always worked hard and seemed to have very little, but will always remain thankful to God for the blessings that he has given to me.

Most of my life was spent working in the Ship building industry as an iron worker, where I was a first class Ship fitter and welder, building and repairing ocean going cargo ships. Having this type of career I was forced to move around a lot, going to where the work was. After over 25 years of doing this and several serious injuries, I left the ship building industry and began my own Handy man company. But due to a bad economy and lack of work I had to look for a different job.

I relocated to Alaska where I worked for Holland America and Princess Cruise Lines as a Maintenance engineer for their employee housing complex. I began having problems with my work because of past injuries, and was forced to stop work all together. My doctors told me that I was no longer able to work, but I kept telling myself that there had to be something I could do, but the circumstances quickly led to a complete loss of all I had.

I have been homeless before, and lived on the streets of San Diego California with no place to go and no money, but through the grace of God I was put in touch with a minister there who told me that there was a reason for this, and it will some day be clear to me why I was placed into this situation. So you see I have experienced being homeless.

I have lost all my income before and been completely broke and with out a penny, not knowing where my next meal was coming from or how I could pay my bills. I have experienced poverty, and hunger.

God never gives us more than we can endure, but we must have faith, that there is a purpose for everything that we experience in our lives good and bad and that somehow we are to take what we have been through, and use our past experiences to help others.

I remembered being told by many people through out my life that the Lord had a very special plan for me, After much thought and prayer as to what this could be, it became so very clear that the Lord wanted me to start my ministry, and to use my life’s experiences as a means to help and minister to others. I truly believe that everything that I have endured in my life, all my hardships, all the joy, and sorrows that I have been through where to be used as a means to relate to others who are going through the same things.

So I started my ministry, and became Incorporated as a Non-profit In August of 2017. I have devoted my life to God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and to helping those in need. My purpose is to spread the word of God and minister to those in need, and to help those in need, I have been in the same places as those that I now seek to help, and realize that this is God’s great plan for me and I have endured these things in my life for this reason.

We all receive our blessings from God in different ways, all tho they may not seem as such at the time, we must look deeper, with open eyes and hearts, and most of all with prayer to see and truly realize the gifts that He has given us. Even the worse experiences have a purpose, as well as all the good things. All of these things together make us each who we are.

I hope this explains a little about myself, and how I came to be where I am today. I also hope that you understand now why I am so devoted to helping those in need, and how I came about realizing and understand the great and special purpose that God has given to me.

This is who I am, and the work I do, and I always remember these words “There but for the grace of God go I”

God Bless You All and welcome to Southern Christian Ministries
